Kevin Rudd, The Avoidable War: The Dangers of a Catastrophic Conflict between US and Xi Jinping’s China (2022)

Discussion Leaders: Max Nemni and David Milne

This book written by China expert and well-known former Australian PM Kevin Rudd is widely regarded as the best analysis of the dangerous state of China-US relations today. Unpacking the cultural misunderstandings, historical grievances and ideological differences on both sides, Rudd takes stock of the risk of war and the ways in which armed conflict might best be avoided. The book gives the most comprehensive treatment of China’s ambitions under President Xi Jinping and the hardening of American policy towards China. (Available in all formats; 400 pages plus notes)
