Talks for Fall 2022: Wednesdays at 10 am (in person at Faculty Club and on ZOOM)

Registration will open a few weeks before the event.

Speaker: Charlie Maurer, science writer
Talk: “Illusion, Reality, Canvas and Camera”
Introducer: Michael Hutcheon

Abstract: No camera ever tells the truth, and the Louvre is filled with fakery. All naturalistic pictures are optical illusions. This talk will conjoin simple science with sophisticated paintings and photographs to show that you are imagining any realism that you see.

Bio: Charles Maurer is an award-winning science writer who once was a commercial photographer. He and his wife Daphne have published two books on perception.
