June 20, 2024: John Kennedy
John Kennedy is a psychologist with interests in perception and representation. His research on pictures, metaphor, symbols and illusions has led him to ask blind people to make drawings, which they do quite well, often to their own surprise. He was called the guru of tactile pictures. His findings were described as astonishing. His work led to his election as Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
John taught first at Harvard and then at Toronto. He has held visiting positions in Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Australia. He is still publishing steadily with his students, now in positions in several countries.
